On the night of 10/11 September 1920, during the Red Terror, hostages from the Cossack cantonment of Kelermesskaya (about 120 people) were summarily executed and buried next to the graveyard. In 2003, a chapel in memory of the shot Cossacks was built in the graveyard; the work was funded by V. Zatolkin and the Fateyev brothers. Five years later, thanks to the efforts of Zatolkin, now district ataman, a commemorative cross was erected in the churchyard, dedicated “From the Cossacks to the victims of political repression”.
Entries for Adygea are included in the Book in Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression in the Krasnodar Region (8 volumes, 2005-2015).
The Memorial online database (2025) includes 90,069 names of victims in the Krasnodar Region (Krai; BR 34,696).
11,885 were shot, most during the Great Terror (11,271) – 48 executions in 1920 are listed. Over 16,000 were sent to the camps; charges were dropped against 1,306 detainees (18 of whom died in captivity); and 3,642 were deported. (Police records name a further 55,373 forced settlers and deportees, see Chamlykskaya [23-09].)
