Background

The camp at the Matrosov gold mine (renamed the Beria mine in 1949-1950) was in operation from 1944 and formed part of the Tenkinsky mining department of Sevvostlag (Dalstroi). The prisoners burial ground on the banks of the Matrosov stream was discovered in the mid-2000s by the Debin businessman V.A. Naiman. On 14 September 2010, Naiman erected a memorial cross there.
