In 1994 an area was set aside in the city cemetery for the burial of those who had suffered political repression. Up to 2014, says the Iskitim city administration, its records show that 317 people were buried there.
On 30 October 1994, a commemorative cross was erected on the site with an inscription that reads, “To the victims of political repression. May those who perished unjustly be honoured and rest in peace”. The memorial came into existence thanks to the efforts of N.G. Koinov, first chairman of the Iskitim Association of the Victims of Political Repression; local enterprises, commercial organisations and private individuals all contributed to the costs of its creation.
A Book in Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression in the Novosibirsk Region (4 vols. 2005-2014) contains biographical entries on 12,000 who were shot or sent to the camps.
