Background

Sukhoi Log lies on the outskirts of Kekur village. In the 1930s secret executions and burials of Kudymkar district inhabitants took place there. The burial was discovered and investigated in 1994 by A.M. Krivoshchokov, director of the Komi-Permyak branch of Memorial, and E.Yu. Makarov from the Komi-Permyak district museum of history and local studies. That year a memorial cross was erected on the site and in 1997 a symbolic grave of the Unknown Victim of Repression was organised there. An obelisk in “Eternal memory of the slain innocents” was placed there the same year thanks to the Komi-Permyak branch of the Memorial Society.

Since 2000 the burial has the status of a site of cultural heritage of regional significance. In May 2013 participants in Perm Memorial’s “Rivers of Memory” expedition added a notice to the cross with information about the history of repression in the Kudymkar district.
