Background

From 1935 to 1941 branches of Volgolag engaged in the construction of the Rybinsk hydroelectric station were located in the Nekouzky district of the Yaroslavl Region. One was based near the village of Vereteya. Prisoners who died there were buried in mass graves in a separate part of the village graveyard.

In 2007, a wooden cross was erected there in memory of the victims of Volgolag.

Lest We Forget: A Book in Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression, linked by Fate to the Yaroslavl Region (9 vols, 1993-2017) includes biographical entries for those shot or sent to the camps.
